Dallas Stars at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and predictions

The Dallas Stars (6-1-1) and Edmonton Oilers (2-5-1) meet Thursday at Rogers Place. Puck drop is set for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Stars vs. Oilers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars won 4-3 as -139 favorites at the Calgary Flames as the Over (5.5) hit Wednesday. LW Jason Robertson, RW Evgenii Dadonov, and LW Mason Marchment each scored in the 2nd period as Dallas won for the 5th time in 6 games.

The Oilers won 5-2 as -148 favorites vs. the Flames on Sunday as the Over (6.5) cashed in the Heritage Classic outdoor game at Commonwealth Stadium. LW Evander Kane had 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) as Edmonton snapped a 4-game losing skid.

Edmonton won 2 of 3 meetings last season, and the Over went 2-1.

Stars at Oilers projected goalies

Scott Wedgewood (1-1-0, 3.54 GAA, .889 SV%) vs. Stuart Skinner (1-2-1, 3.51 GAA, .863 SV%)

Wedgewood is coming off a 20-save performance, allowing 3 goals in a 4-1 loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs last Thursday. He has allowed 3 or more goals in both outings this season, but did pick up the win in a 5-4 OT victory vs. the Philadelphia Flyers on Oct. 21.

Skinner made 24 stops and allowed a season-low 2 goals in Sunday’s win. The Edmonton-born goaltender allowed 3 or more goals in his 1st 4 outings this season but is coming off his 2 best performances thus far.

Stars at Oilers picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 3, Stars 2

Moneyline

Edmonton’s win last time out might have been a turning point in its season. Coming off a 4-game losing skid, the Oilers may be able to carry momentum from Sunday and rattle off a few wins.

Dallas has looked great recently but should struggle to win with Wedgewood facing a confident Oilers team fresh off a victory.

BET OILERS (-135).

Puck line/Against the spread

While the Oilers should win, it’s unlikely that they will do so by multiple goals in back-to-back games. Dallas +1.5 (-210) should hit, but Oilers ML is the better play at a lower price.

PASS. Bet the moneyline and/or the total instead.

Over/Under

If Skinner continues to improve, he should help this game stay under the total. The concern here is that Wedgewood hasn’t looked great this season and is expected to give up 3 or more goals.

I don’t love this line, but I would LEAN UNDER 6.5 (-105) in this spot. Skinner seems to be returning to form, and Dallas may come back down to Earth after scoring 4-plus goals in back-to-back games.
