The Stars mustered just 20 shots on goal in the loss, and Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner stopped 19 of the 20 he faced.

If the Stars win tonight, Game 7 will be in Dallas on Wednesday night.

What to know

With a win, the Oilers can advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2006. The Florida Panthers already have one of the spots in the Final after winning the Eastern Conference on Saturday night.

No Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since the Montreal Canadiens did so in 1993. Canadian teams have reached the Final five times since then.

The Stars have been great on the road in the playoffs, going 6-2 away from Dallas in these playoffs.

Dallas lost in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final last season to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights.

What they’re saying

Stars coach Peter DeBoer:

“Well, we’re the best road team in the league, playoffs and regular season. We’ve got to win one road game.”

Stars center Matt Duchene:

“We haven’t had our best other than probably Game 3 in this series…The nice thing is we’re still in the series and we’ve just got to win one at a time here.”

Oilers captain Connor McDavid:

“We’ve put ourselves in an opportunity at home to win a big game, but that’s all we’ve done. There’s a lot of work to do.”

Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch after Game 5 on the performance of goaltender Stuart Skinner:

“We win 3-1 tonight, and I think that’s a little skewed. I don’t think we were that much better tonight. I think just the fact that Stu had so many big saves gave us a little bit of a cushion and made it look easier than it was for our team.”
