The Edmonton Oilers (38-21-2, 29-32 PL, 26-32-3 O/U) take on the Pittsburgh Penguins (28-25-6-2, 32-29 PL, 23-34-4 O/U) in an inter-conference bout on Sunday afternoon. The Oilers were hit with a road loss against the Sabres on Saturday afternoon. The Penguins lost to the Caps on Thursday and play in Boston on Saturday. Nobody does it better when it comes to NHL Picks!

Oilers Conclude Road Trip

The Edmonton Oilers conclude a four-game road trek on Sunday. Edmonton has obviously been a streaky team this season. They have won five of their last six games including a win against the Penguins in that span. They were dealt a surprising road loss against the Blue Jackets on Friday and could not hold a lead in a 3-2 shootout road loss against the Sabres on Sunday. The Oilers are second in the division, 10 points out of the top spot.

Connor McDavid continues to shine, amassing six points in his last five games. The 27-year-old center isn’t quite posting the numbers he had last year but is having another outstanding year, recording a total of 100 points. He had a goal and an assist against the Penguins last week. Leon Draisaitl is in a groove, collecting nine points on the month. The veteran winger has a good chance to hit 100 points. He had 82 points in 62 games. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been inconsistent this season and only has one point this month. The 30-year-old center now has 55 points and a +8 rating.

The Oilers continue to give most of the starts to Stuart Skinner. The 25-year-old goaltender has been outstanding recently and has posted a 2.60 GAA and a .906 save % complemented by a 29-13-3 record. Backup Calvin Pickard has a 2.45 GAA and a .909 save % with an 8-4 record. Edmonton is scoring an average of 3.5 goals per game, good for fifth. They are conceding an average of 2.9 goals, placing them 10th.

Penguins In Need of Winning Streak

The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to drift in the wildcard standings. They remain eight points out of a wildcard spot and are likely going to miss the playoffs. They traded Jake Guentzel this week. The squad recently dropped three consecutive games before a win against the Blue Jackets on Tuesday. They were then hit with a disastrous 6-0 home loss by the Capitals on Thursday and host the Bruins on Saturday night.

Sidney Crosby has cooled down quite a bit, earning just one point in his last five games entering Saturday night. The veteran star is having another productive year, collecting 63 points. He was pointless against the Oilers last week. Evgeni Malkin scored against the Oilers in the defeat last week. The veteran has not been scoring many goals, issuing just three in his last ten games, and has 18 goals and 30 assists on the year. Erik Karlsson has been slumping, posting zero points in his last five clashes. The 33-year-old defenseman has solid numbers, registering 43 points and a +7 rating.

Bunting on what he can bring to the power play: “I feel like I think the game offensively and can complement a power play. So, it’s either in the front of the net or that middle spot, I feel like that’s my strength… I hope if I’m there, I’ll help out this team.” pic.twitter.com/iKbqHGAiFe

The Penguins have strong goaltending. Tristan Jarry did not play in the loss to the Oilers last week and will be in the net in this one.  He has compiled a 2.68 GAA and a .908 save % accompanied by a 18-20-4 record. Backup Alex Nedeljkovic has a subpar 2.88 GAA, a .908  save % and a 9-5-4 record. Pittsburgh is averaging 2.9 goals, ranking them 24th. They are keeping opponents to an average of 2.8 goals, placing them eighth.

The Edmonton Oilers are clicking. They have won five of their last seven games entering Saturday. The Pittsburgh Penguins are a demoralized squad. They are 10 points out of a playoff spot and traded a few key players this week. They have lost four of their last five games.

Furthermore, Edmonton has been stellar in the defensive end, conceding two or fewer goals in five of their last seven games. The Penguins are slumping. They have only scored 10 goals in their last five games entering Saturday night’s game. The Oilers just beat them by a 6-1 score last week and I expect another convincing win.

Prediction: Edmonton Oilers -155

The over is a strong play. Edmonton is consistently producing, netting 16 goals in their last five road games. They collected 37 shots on goal in the 6-1 win against the Penguins last week. The Penguins have not been able to keep opponents in check, squandering 21 goals in their last five games.

In addition, the Penguins are generating offense. They have scored at least three goals in six of their last ten games. Pittsburgh has been dangerous on home ice, scoring four or more goals in four of their last five home bouts. The Oilers are expected to have backup Calvin Pickard in the net. The over is 3-0-1 in the Penguins’ last four games.

Prediction: Over 6.5
