Loblaw reverses decision to reduce discounts on expiring foods

Loblaw is reversing its decision to nix a 50 per cent discount on expiring foods.

Earlier this week, CBC reported that an email from Loblaw Companies Ltd. stated it would no longer discount perishable foods like meat, fruit and vegetables by 50 per cent as their best-before date approaches.

The discount would be capped at 30 per cent to keep the retailer consistent with its competitors, Loblaw had said in a statement to The Canadian Press.

The decision was widely criticized by people who rely on the discount to eat, especially as the price of groceries continues to rise.

Loblaw said Friday the 50 per cent stickers will be returning across Canada in the next few weeks.
