Sault news: Coats for Kids campaign helps people stay warm during winter months

Thanks to those who generously donated to this year’s CTV Coats for Kids campaign, hundreds of people have warm clothing to get them through the cold winter months.

“We saw about a thousand pieces of winter clothing donated, which was able to service a number of families in need this season,” said campaign chair Jamie Nelson.

“Some first time in Canada preparing for a winter that is unknown to them, and the smile on their faces when the children try on coats and families that get winter clothing to be able to be prepared for the wonderful weather that we have during the winter in Sault Ste. Marie.”

Cintas provided cleaning services for the garments, and company officials are impressed with the number of donations.

“Our community is fantastic,” said Johnathan Mullin of Cintas.

“I think once there was a little bit more visibility, we were pretty happy with the numbers. This was the most items we’ve collected, at least in my three years.”

There are some coats still available for those who need them, and Nelson says dates, times and pickup locations will be announced shortly.
