Her rent in St. John\u2019s has doubled. Groceries are 20 per cent more expensive than they were two years ago, according to Statistics Canada. But her wages haven&#8217;t kept up, and Sarkar says she is barely finding the time to study. <\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old is part of a growing number of precarious workers in Canada. These are workers who don\u2019t know how many hours they\u2019ll get in a week or if they\u2019ll be employed next month.
