Fires Destroys House Along Saskatchewan Drive: 'It's So Sad'

An Edmonton house along Saskatchewan Drive has been completely destroyed after catching fire Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to 10423 Saskatchewan Drive around 5:30 a.m., according to some neighbors.

Kim Langford, one of the neighbors living nearby, told Postmedia few neighbors heard a firefighter say “it was a stubborn fire,” noting that the doors and windows of the house had been boarded up.

Firefighters might’ve used a chainsaw to cut a wall open to get water to get inside, she added.

“All you could see was black smoke. It’s so sad,” Langford said.

“I had also seen firefighters throw bricks at the window to get water inside.”

According to the neighbours, the owner of the house is an elderly lady living in Calgary.

The area between Queen Elizabeth Park Road and 105 Street was closed for few hours due to the fire.

No injuries reported. No other houses were damaged and the area along Saskatchewan Drive has been re-opened.

The cause of the fire is not known and investigation is ongoing.
